When a woodworker thinks of a "composite", they think of laminate, or plywood. Thin wood glued together.
These leaves are carefully cut and glued together from the most unique colored wood I can find to make the variegated leaf look. Some are spalted to perfection, and others have tad bits of bark in them. It is truly amazing to see how they come out. Each one is different. I had drilled a side hole on this particular wood leaf pendant. I strung it up with some other wood beads and a few glass seed beads to give you an example. The leaf pendants come in raw form, meaning that they are cut fairly thin, but the edges are not finished at all. That's your job. That's where your imagination comes in. You can keep the raw edges, sand them down with a rotary tool or by hand with a piece of sand paper, or use your jewelers saw to cut the edge to look more like a real leaf. Wood is really easy to work with. If you love natural, rustic style things, you will love working with this to make your own design. I have many rustic parts just waiting for someone's imagination. I just need a little time to do the photography and get them posted to the website. Please check back to the website a little later to see how I'm doing. www.rusticbeads.com
